**the 11th step is actually in the video above- and I guarantee that it will be your FAVORITE bit of advice from me on this subject!! Click to watch it above now.***

Family time does not have to mean sit and eat. Quality time together can be spent doing other activities. Try to clear the table while people are slowing down to take away temptations of over eating.

Traditional meals probably contain high calorie ingredients such as pasta, butter, oil, cheese and sugar. Be creative and consult some low fat cooking sources on alternative ingredients that will cut several hundred calories per dish using items like egg whites, applesauce, fruit paste, lighter versions (not fat free) and etc. No need to tell the family–they probably won’t notice!

Add some new dishes to the dinner table of salads, vegetable, fruits and broth-based soups. These are generally healthier choices so you can fill up in these and eat less “empty calorie” stuff.

Schedule in your exercise in the mornings. Ask a friend or family member to join, it will help with accountability.

Learn to say “No Thank You”. You do not have to try every dish prepared or eat all that you take.

While in preparation, only sample the food that is necessary. You could potentially eat 500-800 calories in sampling before you sit down to eat.

Eat ONLY until you are satisfied, NOT full. If you sit at the dinner table for more then 2 hours, you are probably going to eat more then you need to because it’s there.

Keep a log of ALL of your exercise and food. The average amount of calories for an adult between the ages of 30-55 who participates in moderate activity of 2-3 hours a week is 1800 (women)-2300 (men). The average holiday meal including drinks can average around 2800-3200. Logging keeps you aware of why the scale goes up and down.

Create a 15 min exercise routine that you can do every during the busy times. Add things like jumping jacks, jump rope, bridge, push ups, etc. You want to have tools outside of the gym!

Holidays are stressful times and sometimes depressing for some. Exercise boosts your body’s production of serotonin, the body’s “happy drug”. Don’t let stress win! If you need some support hire a trainer or a coach. You’ll be glad you had the discipline and you will be ahead of the game for the New Year!

**this is an excerpt from my book Fit 2 Love: How to Get Physically, Emotionally, and Spiritually Fit to Attract the Love of Your Life**

“Your relationship with yourself is the central template from which all others are formed. Loving yourself is a prerequisite to creating a successful and authentic union with another.” Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott

One of the tools that was pivotal in helping me manifest and manage all my relationships since 1998 was Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott’s book, If Love is a Game, These are the Rules. It was the first time I really understood the concept that how others treated me was a direct result of how I treated myself. When I could stand back and be objective about my behavior toward myself and what messages that sent out to others, I realized that the relationship I had to focus on most to get what I wanted was with myself. If I was not willing to treat myself like a queen, then how could I expect someone else to?

Your turn.

How do you treat yourself? When you wake up in the morning, what do you say to yourself? Do you compliment or criticize your body? Do you try on clothes, pinpointing all of the negative things you can, secretly wishing you could have someone else’s body?

If you do, you are not alone. This common practice of most women is the exact behavior that drives the fitness and weight loss industry—and I hate it. We focus on perfect bodies and how can I spot reduce this area so I will like myself, or so someone else will find me attractive and valuable? The underlying emotion here is fear. Many spiritual teachers of mine over the years have all agreed that our actions are motivated consciously or subconsciously by either love or fear.

Fear is defined as a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by present or imminent danger and a feeling of disquiet or apprehension. Fear can be a good tool when you think your life is in danger, but most people live in this emotion all day long with no such threat. Fear is uncomfortable to be in and around. Fear can also be defined as lack of trust.

Love is defined as a deep, tender feeling of affection and care toward a person, such as that arising from kinship or a sense of oneness, and a person who is the object of deep or intense affection or attraction. Love feels good, and we seek it all the time. We hold others as objects of our attention to give love to, and we want to receive love from others.

Which of these is activated more in your life when you deal with your body? Is it mostly love or fear?

How many times in your relationship life do you attract people who do the same thing or change the way they treat you as the relationship progresses? They start off complimentary and wonderful in the first two or three months, then the compliments stop coming because you either did not receive them or you argued about them.

You trained them how to treat you.

How often do you deflect a compliment? Someone tells you that you look pretty, and you say, “Oh no, I just rolled out of bed, and I am having a bad hair day.” This blocks a compliment.

Many women do it because they have a hard time receiving. You are not allowing yourself to receive the gift because your inner critic does not believe what the other person says. You want to feel attractive, then someone gives you a compliment, and you reject it. Can you see what message you are sending to that person? Why would anyone compliment you again?

Take out a sheet of paper and answer these questions to see what your body blueprint says about you based on every area of fitness and self-care, including exercise, diet, rest, play, and self-talk. We will then work on creating a new body blueprint that can yield more desirable responses.

List all the thoughts you can remember you had today, from the time you woke up to now, about how you look or any judgments on your character. For example, if you made a mistake, did you quickly internalize with a thought like “I am so stupid,” or did you think “Oh well, glad I learned that now?” List all of your thoughts in a single column.

Underneath the last thought, write a list all the actions you did today, from taking a shower to eating breakfast. Also include things you would have like to have done or should have done and didn’t. For example, you did not take your supplements today.

You should have one long vertical row that contains all the thoughts you were aware of today and all the actions you have accomplished so far. Now make another column to the right of the first one and answer these questions.

Next to the thoughts you had, write down if they were positive comments or negative. If you criticized yourself, that is negative. If you brushed your teeth, that is positive.

Next to the actions, write down a brief reason for doing that action and whether it came from love or fear. For example, if you wrote down ‘had a cup of coffee, went to work and skipped breakfast,’ do you think skipping breakfast was an act of love or disregard? You know the body needs fuel, so if the reason you skipped breakfast was because you were too busy, you put work before yourself, which sends the message that you are not as important as your work. Keep going through your list and be honest with yourself about the messages you are sending.

What Does Your Body Blueprint Say?

Answer the questions below and identify the message you are sending with each of your answers.

Exercise: How do you take care of your body? Do you exercise regularly? What kind of exercises do you do and why?

Diet: What foods do you consume on a regular basis? Are they high energy, clean foods that provide vitamins and nutrients for your body? Are they processed, chemically created foods that contain large amounts of fat and sugar with no nutritional value? Do you consume the amount of water your body needs to function optimally every day? Do you ingest toxins and drugs?

Rest: Do you sleep at least seven to eight hours a day? Do you unwind before going to bed? Do you take breaks during the day to relax and recharge your mind and body?

Play: Do you have fun on a weekly basis? Do you laugh often? Do you feel joy and do things you love every week?

Self-talk: How do you treat yourself with the words you use in your mind? If you talked to someone else the way you talk to yourself, how would they respond?

The thoughts you are aware of and your actions are part of your consciousness. You can change those behaviors starting now. But before we start to focus on the steps of changing your body blueprint to build the kind of relationships you want in your life, let’s acknowledge how some of these habits got there in the first place. Why is it this way? Where did these patterns of thought come from?

“Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin, as self-neglecting.”

William Shakespeare, Henry V.

In our pursuit to “acquire” and create an abundant life, I all too often see more people neglect the foundation of life- health.

In fact, here is a picture that was floating around on Facebook that quotes the Dalai Lama:

In the effort to “attract” ALL that we want, while living in the moment, we can look at the principles of attracting greater abundance, as taught by Chellie Campbell author of The Wealthy Spirit. These same principles can easily be applied to our lives to improve the state of health, fitness and vitality.

When someone feels good, they have more energy. People with better energy attract more positive energy into their life. Regardless what level your financial goals are, they are most likely higher or a step or two above where you are now, yes? Wouldn’t it make sense then that you have to be able to handle the next level physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Without growing yourself as a person to a higher level, how can we expect to receive at a higher level?

In exercise, it’s called adaptation. Our bodies respond to the stimulus we provide and we adapt to be able to handle it more easily. If you want to get stronger, (or faster, leaner, etc) you must add more resistance or intensity to create a new level for your body to adapt to.

Let’s look at Chellie’s 6 Keys from The Wealthy Spirit:

Think Positive

Send Out Ships

Count Your Money

Swim with Dolphins

Survive the Storms

Seek Balance and Enlightenment

Now let’s look at how we can apply these principles to our bodies at the same time for more results, greater energy and vitality.

Think Positive- on my 6 Week Beach Body Program, our first class is about Thinking Thin. If you think you are unhealthy, over weight, and sick, you keep attracting more of those things and your behavior does not change. “Thin and healthy” people actually view things differently. They can go to a restaurant and order a salad and really enjoy and feel satisfied. Thinking thin means you reach for water over diet soda because you want to replenish and nourish your cells so they can do their job. There is a different mindset to being “naturally” healthy and fit and practicing this way of thinking will affect your behavior and therefore your results. Click here to learn more about the 6 Week Beach Body Program.

Send Out Ships: In marketing, this is taking action steps so that the more ships you send out, the more likely some will return with riches and spices for you. Send out ships for your body by using some of your 300+ muscles and 200+ bones everyday. You were born to move, not sit. Wake up your body everyday by doing something that is physical- even if it’s only 10-15 minutes. Walk the dog, clean the house, garden, take a class, dance around, climb the stairs a few times, etc. If you don’t move your body, it will not respond the way you’d like it to later. (or maybe even now!)

Count Your Money: Count (or at least pay attention) to your calories! Calorie counting is not the only (or even best) way to pay attention to your food but it is one that gets results and creates awareness. You wouldn’t stand at the gas station and try to put more gas in your car then it needed, would you? It would flow out of the tank to let you know that it’s full and can not handle any more. Well your body “overflows” a little differently but it can still tell you when you have consumed over what you need to function. Knowing your body fat percentage and calculating how many calories you need to be healthy everyday gives you a BUDGET. Your body budget is really no different than your financial budget.

Swim with Dolphins: If you hang out with healthy, happy people, this will rub off on you. If you hang out with people who overeat, over drink and never exercise, THIS will also rub off on you. Your energy will adapt to the dominant energy around you. Pick and choose who you spend your time with wisely. I have heard it said that you are the composite of the 5 people you hang out with most on every level: health, wealth and relationships.

Survive the Storms: Follow the 80/20 rule. Health is a habit, not an event. What you practice most of the time will become your new normal. Life happens and can change your plan, but learning how to adapt and keep going is the key to success in every area of life.

Seek Balance and Enlightenment: We are human BE-ings, not human DO-ings. Take time every week (if not everyday) to STOP and BE. Meditate, play, and rest. The more centered, clear, and positive you are, the more easily you can achieve any goal.

You want to lose weight. So you clean up your diet and you start to exercise. This sounds like a good plan.

But let me ask you- how did you get to where you are now? Are you an emotional eater? Are you someone who does not exercise regularly and lack motivation?

Many people start on a weight loss journey focused on temporary change. “If I go on a diet, I can lose the weight”. You have all heard this before.

But let’s look at from an attraction point of view.

If you focus on weight loss, you set up a resistance to food, exercise and a lifestyle change. Because you are only focused on a number and not the behavior, the thoughts, or the feelings associated with the weight you gained.

As you clean up your diet and exercise more, you may lose the weight you want. But because you never addressed the beliefs or feelings around how you live, eat and exercise, 9 times out of 10 you gain the weight back.

Problem #1: Temporary change. You want fast weight loss, you change lots of things. Then you feel deprived because it was too much change too soon, you consider it a diet and then you rebel and “celebrate” once you have reached your goal-which usually starts the habits and patterns that have you gain the weight right back.

Solution: Clean up your life, not just your diet. Start to “think thin” like we do on our 6 Week Beach Body Program. Download the 4 week plan of Fit 2 Love and REALLY do the exercises especially around the food. Make one change every month so you make it part of your daily or weekly routine. Post a comment on this blog so I can give you more specific action steps to implement into your life. I AM a problem solver so let me help you!

Problem #2: Delaying your happiness. “I’ll only be happy when I lose 10 pounds”. This statement goes against your inner being and your higher self so your body and spirit say “ then you will never be happy “ and your body says “ if you can’t love me the way I am, then I am NOT changing for you!” Your “then” never comes. There is always something else. You set yourself up to fail IMMEDIATELY and delay your happiness and results in the process. Accepting yourself where you are, as you are, right now is the ONLY way to make a real shift. Otherwise, it’s only a matter of time until you and your body go back to the exact state it was in before or worse.

Solution: Find appreciation with your body and health right now. When you do that, you release resistance and your body will shift ad change. Your body will appreciate the love and positive attention and respond JUST like a person. You can download the free Fit 2 Love 4 Week Plan and start changing your relationship with your body and practice being happy NOW. Let’s face it, one of the only reasons you want to lose weight in the first place is because you THINK you will be happy once you get it. So pretend you have it now and stop delaying the HAPPY PART! It gets you no where to hold your ground of unhappiness. You practice that and that’s what you are good at. So when you get to “happy”, you might not stay there long because you are too good at “unhappy”.

**What you lose, you can find. Don’t concentrate on loss but on transformation and releasing.**

This past weekend we had a local church putting on a Greek Food Festival. For those of you who do not know, I am Greek (and Italian). I grew up in the Greek Church for 13 years and we also put on a food festival every year. So I know and love this food…..

However, it’s not gluten free and it’s mostly high fat, high calorie dishes. So what did I do?

I planned for it! ALL week long, I ate and exercised with the idea that I was going to be eating more than I normally do on Friday and Saturday evenings (and taking more digestive enzymes to help my body break down the gluten and dairy). Each day I did about 45 minutes of cardio and kept my other meals small and clean. I was super excited about enjoying my Greek food-I knew exactly where I wanted to “spend” my calories.

When we got there Friday night, I focused on only the foods I knew I loved. Surprisingly, I was not very impressed with the way these foods were prepared. My mother is a great cook and I eat some of these foods every year anyway but the Greek Food Festivals of my past were legendary so you can imagine my disappointment when my taste buds were not singing after a few bits of each of my favorite dishes.

This was Friday night, the first day of the festival. In my mind, I had planned to go Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The good news here is that because I was not impressed, we could skip Sunday and I would be eating WAY less than planned on Saturday.

The one item they did very well were the Loukoumades- honey dipped fried dough balls. Yes, I said fried dough. I don’t eat many fried things but this food is part of my childhood and I remember helping the ladies put the dough into the oil when I was young and then soaking them in honey and sugar solution when they came out. The last time I had one of these, I was in Greece in 2005. Before that, it’s probably been at least ten years since I had one of these desserts. Saturday morning, I made sure I got my butt on my spin bike for at least 45 minutes and I even jumped in the pool for a bit before we met our friends at the festival on Saturday to enjoy the second half of the day and early evening.

I want to outline a few key points about this past weekend, how I handled it and the lessons I hope to pass on to you.

I love and appreciate food. When it’s really important to me, I say yes to whatever it is and I plan for it (digestive enzymes)

I don’t want to gain any weight so I planned my meals and activity to balance out the indulgence I was planning to have. (45 minutes of cardio everyday and super clean, protein and veggie based meals before that with no starchy carbs)

Once I tasted the food I was so excited about and didn’t love it, I stopped eating it. It wasn’t “worth it”

When I found something I could really enjoy, I ate only that and savored it. I decided to enjoy the time with my friends, listen to the music and make the food festival NOT about food.

How you can use these points to make a difference in how you celebrate or occasionally indulge with your favorite foods. (think holidays)

In Fit 2 Love, I talk about a having a Food Love Affair. A healthy relationship with food means you can appreciate it, enjoy it and have power over it- not the other way around. In most cases where someone does not have a healthy relationship with food, my food festival weekend would have still continued and you may have continued to eat all the food even after realizing it was not as good as it “should” be or that you planned for.

Planning and thinking ahead- it takes less than 3 minutes to look ahead for the day or week to see where there may be outing, parties, or gaps of time where you will need to eat. I often here people tell me they do not have time to think about their food but YOU DO ANYWAY! We all eat…. So take an extra 3 minutes to plan it out in your head. If you need help with this, ask!

“Is it worth it” is a phrase I teach all my clients. If nothing else, ask yourself before you eat something that you think maybe you “shouldn’t”, IS IT WORTH IT? If it’s not worth gaining weight over or not losing weight, then put it down. In one respect, it’s only food. You can replace it with different food. If it IS worth it (in the case of the fried honey balls for me), then accept it and its consequences and PLAN. I took my enzymes, I did my exercise. So there is no guilt or problem. I loved them and it’s OK.

Just because it’s there does not mean you are hungry or that you need it. Someone people are so hypnotized by having food in front of them, they must think the food is yelling “EAT ME!” Thanksgiving dinners are the prime example of overeating JUST BECAUSE it’s there. I use to do it too but in the last 7 or 8 years, I have had a completely different relationship with holidays because I could hear my mind chatter and I changed it. A habit is just a habit because you keep doing it and haven’t changed your internal conversation. You CAN change that internal conversation but first you have to be aware of what you are ALREADY saying to yourself.

Food Vs Exercise: THEY ARE BOTH IMPORTANT!

In case you haven’t met her before, this is my client Dorothy. She will be 91 years old at the end of the month and this picture was taken last week.

I started training her about a year ago, right before her 90th birthday. I was amazed at her then and even more so now.

After being totally inspired, I asked if I could film her so I could share her story and energy with my clients and friends. The few questions I asked back then were answered brilliantly, but after knowing and training her for a year, I have discovered a few pieces to Dorothy’s success that I want to share.

But first, watch the video below from last year of Dorothy if you have not seen it to witness her energy. A still picture does not do her justice. This woman is a 30 year old inside a body that chronologically is 91, but operates more like 50.

Does she really kickbox? Yes, but that was a harder picture to get since I have to hold the kick pad at the same time!

She has often completed 3 sets of 25-30 pushups at an angle or on her knees, she has been recently doing jumping jacks (because I felt that it was important for her to feel confident in her ability to leave the floor and work on balance and recovery) and she has been perfecting her front and side kicks.

Why is Dorothy so amazing at 91 years old? Here is what I think:

1. She works full time and she loves what she does. She has a passion. Most people I see doing well as they age LIVE their passion.

2. She keeps active- she obviously is exercising but the fact that she is still working full time means she is up and around more often then not.

3. She is still learning- Dorothy is learning and playing bridge and taking Spanish lessons to keep her brain active. The term “Grumpy old men” is easy to see why it applies when the majority of aging people stop wanting to learn and grow. Even at 91, she still looks for things to learn. She doesn’t believe or act as if she knows best even though she has lived closer to 100 years than anyone I know!

4.Her spiritual beliefs are very strong and she practices living from a broader perspective. She has had a hard life and could very easily complain and hold onto anger and resentment. But she has worked to release the “dark” energy from her past and live in love and freedom. This is the biggest key in my opinion.

From my spiritual perspective, she does not have a lot of resistance. By resistance, I mean she does not say NO to many things or hold onto FEAR about the future. I see this as the biggest lesson I can learn from Dorothy on how to age with grace and happiness instead of fear, disappointment, and negativity.

5. She is grateful- every time I see her, she has a smile on her face and has something to be grateful for. This energy can not help but attract health and vitality!

Maybe one day, I can get her to appear and speak to a group of my clients and friends. I would love to tour her around and help inspire everyone to age with happiness and vitality. YOU have a choice.

Every choice you make today effects your future-it’s never to late to choose a better path for your mind, body and spirit that help you age with grace and joy.

I introduced her to my Mother and Grandmother in law to inspire us all to be thriving at 90! I want those I love to be around as long as possible in a healthy way!

Want to age like Dorothy? I may be able to help. Let me know 800 571 5722

Our 6 Week Beach Body Program uses MIND TOOLS such as EFT, hypnosis and meditation and these can be life changing, powerful tools

I wanted to share with you WHY and HOW you can lose weight by changing the way you THINK.

For some of you , the idea of hypnosis is being told to act like a chicken. Wrong.

This article was written by Susan French, C.Ht.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool but exactly HOW does it work? The real magic is that hypnosis works as both a “magic wand” and as a “snowball gathering snow.”

Let’s take a look at each separately and then how they work together.

The magic-wand effect is when you have a hypnosis session and your issue is solved instantly and without further effort. Magic!

The snowball effect is what you experience with several hypnosis sessions, in which each session reinforces and enhances the relief created by previous sessions.

The reality is that both effects create permanent change. Hypnosis creates the initial change. Reinforcement ensures that the change lasts.

Reinforcement occurs when you regularly use a reinforcement CD made by your hypnotherapist, induce self-hypnosis, or through continued subsequent sessions with your hypnotherapist. Your hypnotherapist guides you in creating the initial change and reinforcing it, thereby accomplishing your goal of permanent, positive change.

Now, let’s look at it a little more closely.

We use hypnosis to change responses and behaviors. All responses and behaviors are learned. All that hypnosis really does is cause very rapid learning (or relearning) to take place so that new responses and behaviors become automatic.

Hypnosis allows this rapid learning to occur by interrupting the conscious, critical factor of the mind/brain. For reasons of survival, the critical factor of the mind/brain slows down the learning process. However, when those initial survival reasons are no longer necessary, it makes sense to interrupt or bypass the critical factor, which is precisely what hypnosis does – painlessly, safely, and effectively.

We know that no learning is INSTANT. You didn’t learn to ride a bike instantly. You didn’t learn to speak instantly. You didn’t learn to read or write instantly. You were taught the initial ideas and methods and those ideas were repeatedly reinforced until they become automatic.

Hypnosis allows that learning or relearning to happen more rapidly. However, as with any learning process, it needs to be reinforced. Thus, hypnosis is both a “magic wand” and a “snowball gathering snow.”

Let’s take a look at Joanna’s experience to get a better idea of exactly how hypnosis DOES work:

Joanna was sitting in the waiting room at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute. She was waiting for her first hypnotherapy appointment. She was desperate to lose weight. She had lost and gained at least three hundred pounds in her thirty-two years. Now, here she was, seventy pounds overweight again. She had tried everything.

She had heard some say that hypnosis could be like a magic wand. She had heard others say it didn’t work at all. Her best friend Martha had just lost fifty-five pounds using hypnosis. She said it was easy and it worked, but that Joanna would have to do her part too. Would it work for her?

If this reminds you of your own questions about weight loss and hypnosis, keep reading.

We can call the habit of overeating a food addiction, compulsive overeating, or a self-destructive habit. Whatever we call it, though, once that kind of behavior takes control, you will need to unlearn old, destructive behaviors and relearn new, constructive ones.

Joanna followed through with her hypnosis for weight loss. She learned the reasons she ate for comfort and she altered those behaviors. She learned that eating good, fueling foods were essential, and she incorporated those ideas into her daily life. She also learned that she needed to move her body more. Exercise became her oasis. It became her “me-time” every day.

Joanna lost her seventy pounds easily and happily and has maintained her new weight because she created a new relationship with food, with her body, and with life itself. That was five years ago.

Hypnosis makes the process of transforming counterproductive behaviors to productive behaviors easy, effective, and empowering. Any behavior that does not serve your goals and dreams can be changed using hypnosis.

Hypnosis accelerates your learning process so that what might have taken you twenty years to “learn” can be restructured in four to six sessions.

Hypnosis is being used in major medical institutions, such as, Harvard Medical School, UCLA, Stanford, Kaiser Permanente, Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital, and many burn centers, to ease pain, fear, and treatment [, and accelerate healing] for their patients.

Hypnosis is approved by, both, the American Medical Association (AMA) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) for Complementary and Alternative Medical Treatment and as an adjunct to traditional treatments.

The moral of this story is this: if you are wondering if hypnosis is a magic wand or a cumulative change response (snowball effect), it is both!

If all else has failed and you are ready and committed to achieving your goals, it is time to try hypnosis. It works!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s why we use it as the foundation for changing your MIND on the 6 Week Beach Body Program.  We want you to have long lasting change, not temporary results!
